Earlier this summer, Kirk’s Studio for the Performing Arts was approached about doing a weekly radio program on 1100am KFNX. The first show, “Lessons 2.0 – How to Get the Most Out of Your Lessons” debuted on June 14.
Kirk Taylor, a professional musician and instructor for 25 years, served as host and guests included teachers from the studio. Taylor quickly realized the potential for a student experience.
Kirk’s Studio now offers students the chance to produce and promote their own live, on-air weekly radio program: Kirk’s Studio Live. Students meet Wednesday evenings to discuss upcoming programming — interviews with local musicians and celebrities and music that they’ll feature — including their own original works. Students get to operate the board at the radio station and even get experience with the business side of broadcasting: signing sponsors.
Kirk’s Studio Live is broadcast on 1280am KXEG from 2 to 3 pm on Saturdays. The class meets Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 7:30pm at Kirk’s Studio Scottsdale, 11144 N. Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. Tuition is $195 for the month and includes all air time and class time. Class size is limited to four to six students.
